Details of rides organised by Derbyshire Sustrans Rangers. On previous rides we visited Ireland (North and South) in 2011, the outer Hebrides in 2013, Northumberland in 2015, Holland in 2016 and France in all the other years since 2010. Last year (2018) we went to the Isle of Man and this current year (2019) we head for Scotland
For Maldwyn!!! An alternative travel option saving time and money and w & t on your car :fly to Tours from London Stansted (£75) on sunday afternoon 25/o5 cycle to Nantes with others catch train to La Rochelle(£9) then fly back from La Rochelle to EAST MIDLANDS on saturday morning 31/05 (£105)
ReplyDeleteSounds a possibility, but a couple of questions.
ReplyDeleteAre you thinking of a shortened ride - Tours to Nantes (i.e we all start from Tours or we meet the others at Tours). Otherwise we would need to catch a train back to Orleans. M
Maldwyn and I are definitely going to use this option. Will be in Blois for Monday night to met up with Martin,Clyde and Pete after spending our 1st night in Tours(sunday). Will need to be in Nantes for 5pm on Friday to catch train to La Rochelle for saturday morning flight to blighty. Weight limit for bikes on O'Leary airlines (RA) is now 30kg plenty!
ReplyDeleteGood. That's settled. Its Orleans to Nantes for me and we will rdv at Blois. The fairly clear overnights seem to be Monday - Blois, Tuesday - Tours, Wednesday - Saumur and Friday - Nantes. The fly in the ointment is Thursday where a stop halfway between Saumur and Nantes is desirable. I have found a couple of B&B style places south of Angers which might do and I will publish them later. Perhaps Clyde, as our best French speaker, could take a look and, if OK, try to book for the 5 of us?
ReplyDeleteYou sure about this? You'll be going Tours - Blois - Tours then? What about a train from Tours to Orléans on the Sunday, or Monday morning even?
ReplyDeleteSorry, I took too long over my reply to Shawn, and Peter's comment came in between!
ReplyDeleteI'll come up with a suggested rota for booking places!
ReplyDeleteGood news! If you study my map Bouchmaine - St Mathurin, you will see that I had assumed that we would be passing through the center of Angers (because it is a big place with F1, etc). But, in fact, if we are looking for somewhere roughly midway between Saumur and Nantes, we obviously don't need to touch Angers. This brings the distance down by about 11 km. Here is a new table:
ReplyDeleteOrléans - Blois 68 68
Blois - Tours 67 135
Tours - Saumur 85 220
Saumur - Bouchemaine 55 275
Bouchemaine - Nantes 97 372
This looks awful! I'll send out a new map by email and start a new post!
