Saturday 22nd May - Day 5 - POITIERS

Proposed Accomodation for Saturday night the 22nd May is just to the South of Poitiers -perhaps 4km from the start of the greenway adjacent to the D741- is you guessed it Hotel Formula 1 Poiters Sud (code 2353). 30euro for a double room (2 single beds) and 3euro70 for all you can eat (!)buffet breakfast sounds familiar but as always temptingly cheap place to crash after a long day in the saddle.

Or alternatively there is an Ibis in the same area at the tempting price of £39 per double room with own bathroom ! Breakfast is £6.50 pp but may be more substancial than the F1.

Ill be happy to book either one if you all confirm your prefernce ...F1 or Ibis.

  1. Not a greenway, alas, but certainly close to our way out of Poitiers on the penultimate day. Twin rooms at 15 euros a head, with a breakfast at 3.70 euros. It's got my vote - Formule 1 dix points!

  2. Clyde on my new map there is a 'voie verte' illustrated that runs adjacent to the D741 south from Poitiers (ST Benoit) as far as La Villedieu du Clain around 15km I think. You can then pick up the D88 I think

  3. I know its a voie verte because there is a picture of a cyclist and a runner next to a green/white trackfollowing the D741 intimately!

  4. I beg your pardon, Swaddy. This is good news indeed - and 15 km, just like that! I wonder if we will encounter any more new stretches of GW on our route. I wonder also if AF3V is always up to speed with new developments.

  5. The AF3V website shows an 'itinéraire en projet' all the way from Parthenay to Poitiers, and continuing eastwards. Could the bit you've found be part of this? Wouldn't it be great if this VV were actually finished by the time we arrive!

  6. That was just wishful thinking on my part! I've found nothing on the Parthenay - Poitiers VV on the Internet. But when I look very closely at my 2008 Michelin road atlas I see a thin red line starting just S of St Benoit and following the D741 on the W side of the road, crossing the road at Les Quatre Assiettes (The Four Plates - great name!)and continuing on the E side to La Villedieu. Is that the same one? We could incorporate this into our route.

  7. Yes, I will go for F1. Note comments re Laval about waiting a while to see how far the euro falls (if it does!)
