Just a few more details about our B&Bs near Tarbert. The first point is that 'near' is a bit of a euphemism. Tigh An Eilein in Gaelic means 'in the middle of nowhere' and Rodean is 'at the end of the universe'. This is a desolate part of the world, isn't it? Try looking for a bit of green on the OS map! It's all brown contour lines and blobs of blue! Do people really live here?
I jest, of course: in fact, Rodean is probably less than 2 miles from Tarbert (I make the grid ref NG 147 984 but I'm not sure I've got the right house) but Tigh An Eilein is somewhat further, at Flodabay on the C79 (yes, they have C-roads!) I make the GR there NG 099 888. Two or us will be at Rodean (twin room with en suite) and 3 at Tigh An Eilein (double and a single in one room with en suite; and a double with a separate bathroom). There is very little difference in the prices any of the beds (they are all either £40 or £35). Breakfast is of course included with all of them. I volunteer for the double plus separate bathroom at Tigh An Eilein.
For an evening meal, we could hang around at Leverburgh to eat, before carrying on (and maybe take some extra snap in case we get the munchies during the night), altho the lucky ones at Rodean may wish to live it up in Tarbert in the evening - yippie! The good thing is that the next day we don't have to hurry to catch any ferries, so the 'Tiggies' don't have to rush out of their B&B too early to meet up with the others! (or to put it another way, the 'Rodeaners' can have another hour in bed) Just let the weather be kind!
PS I have been asked: does anyone have any dietary requirements?

I see that we should be arriving at Leverburgh at 14:30 so we could all be in Tarbert by late afternoon. Thus, if the weather is fine, we could all eat there, before 3 of us head south again. Christina at Tigh An Eilein recommended Hotel Hebrides.
ReplyDeleteChristina tells me that the west coast route (A859) is fairly flat and passes by sandy beaches, but the east road, which goes to her place, is more demanding and goes through a 'lunar landscape'! Have you investigated this road, Maldwyn?
ReplyDeleteEssential information: Gaelic is spoken at Rodean
ReplyDeleteMy only dietary requirements are no vinegar or beet root. Although I might drink a red wine past it's best if there is nothing else.
ReplyDeleteRed wine for breakfast! You start that early in the day?
ReplyDeleteOur only dietary requirement is hot food and plenty of it! Rodein sounds like a posh school for girls so I assume Peter and Maldwyn will be staying there! Martin and I will be staying at 'Come on Eileen' with you Clyde. Only kidding I'll go wherever, I am easy.
ReplyDeleteQi fact: in 2011 there were 11 Keiths registered in UK but only 5(five)Clydes. Do you think there were any Maldwyns?
Only 11 Keiths in a whole year? Out of several thousand births? I find this surprising. I'm equally surprised there were even 5 Clydes - I've never met another! Surely there were some Maldwyns in Wales? Where are you finding these stats?
ReplyDeleteThere is a Skoon Art Cafe www.skoon.com open until 4.30pm on the East coast road. Only serves soup and cakes and may be expensive, but we could be desperate for somewhere warm and dry.
ReplyDeleteDid folk want a meeting? Maybe one Thurs evening in Feb? Any offers?
ReplyDelete36 mph wind from the south was forecast for this afternoon. We could do with some of that in May!
ReplyDeleteany progress on meeting date I can do any thursday for the rest of the month. Would like meeting before 1st March so can book train/sleeper with confirmed dates in mind.
ReplyDeleteNext Thurs is St Valentine, so maybe the Thurs after that? 21 Feb?
ReplyDelete21 Feb OK for me.
ReplyDelete21st February is OK by me... say 7.30 at Flowerpot as usual
ReplyDelete21st OK for me as well.
ReplyDelete21st is ok fo me.
ReplyDeleteRe names - I had a quick search on my name and found around 50 in Wales and a few in England, although never going to be in the top 1000 of names chosen.
Good to see everybody last night and to confirm that the base accomodation is booked. We will all have to make our own arrangements to Oban and from Inverness. I will check with the hostel at Castlebay re late arrivals and a suitable place to have breakfast. For the Tarbet stop I would be happy to be a "Roedeaner".
