Inverness and the sleeper

I found Struy Guest House, Inverness, but not sure who wants it. It's very cheap - beds at £16  and a room for 4 for £64.

Also, out of my depth with regard to sleeper. Is 07:55 on the Saturday morning? Is there another overnight? I can see no Advance tickets at all and not sure how to break the journey up!

Martin, you don't want to stay at Inverness? What time is that sleeper that you are boarding?

  1. I am booked on the 20.45 sleeper on Friday night, due Crewe 05.38 and a connection to Derby (also stopping at Peartree 7.20!), providing the sleeper is less than 25 minutes late into Crewe.

I can understand why ScotRail Advance tickets may not be available, yet, for trains after the timetable change on 19 May, because, presumably, they are catching up with driver training following electrification completion. However, I can only guess that the need to remove drivers for training may impact some services before 19 May.

If you look at the Scotrail website you should see that Advance tickets are available until 13 April and, hopefully, will move forward each week towards 18 May.

As Shawn has discovered Advance fares from Crewe to Scotland tend to be cheaper than via the East Coast route, possibly because there is more spare capacity on the longer 11 coach trains than Cross Country 4 or 5 coaches and, of course, the York - Birmingham corridor has more commuters than Carlisle - Crewe.
