Ride Leading and maps - France 2014.
As I have the bookings for Orleans and Blois I am happy to volunteer to lead Monday's ride from Hotel to Hotel (with a diversion to see the Chateau at Chambord). I had intended to use the mapometer links provided some time ago by Clyde but they don't work any more for me. Do you know if they expire over time, Clyde? I can probably use Michelin maps, or those provided on the Loire a Velo site or the Eurovelo 6 website. We have proposed Martin as leader into Tours, following his (very) detailed analysis of possible safe routes to the F1. Any other volunteers?

I have also had a look at Nantes where it is possible to almost get to the railway station offroad. Since the youth hostel is only 500 m from the station we might as well all go via there.
ReplyDeleteBlois F1 seems straightforward, 3.4km out of town on the main road to the motorway. As Blois is relatively small there should not be too much heavy traffic, and there do seem to be some kinds of cycle lane markings on the road. Anyway there are no other roads.
I assume Shawn knows where our mobile home will be and presumably the barge will be in the little "port".
I am happy to lead the way to the mobile home outside Saumur as already suggested! I have plotted the result on my garmin which means I am sure to know where I am goiing!
ReplyDeleteI have internet access today! I'll try to send those maps again. I'm glad the Nantes YH is very close to the station; there is less chance of me missing my train at 09:00 the next morning! The barge - yes, I think I found the port on Google Maps some time ago. It's only small, as you say, Martin, so we shouldn't miss it. Does that mean I'm 'leading' (from the back, as usual!) on the penultimate day?
