Some details

On Thursday, I rode to Saint-Astier railway station to buy all my train tickets.  Northbound, it's Saint-Astier - Périgueux - Limoges - Orléans les Aubrais. From there to the La-Chapelle-Saint-Mesmin Formule 1 it's 6.6 km by bicycle. Homeward bound, it'll be Nantes - La Rochelle - Bordeaux - Saint-Astier. Annoyingly, I must put my bike in a bag for just one Intercité train: Limoges - Orléans.
I have also sent a deposit of 33 euros to Alex, whose boat we will be staying in at La Possonnière, and I have reserved a table for 5 at a Guinguette (traditional French riverside restaurant) at La Possonnière for that evening.

  1. Clyde, what time is your train due to arrive in Orleans, or do you have a choice?

  2. What time are you and Peter arriving? Maybe we would have time to investigate a greenway which follows the canal, la Voie Verte d'Orléans.

  3. I will be there a couple of hours earlier, but I will try to get back to the station to meet your train.
Last time I was in Orleans it was freezing cold and a torrent of water flowing down the river just about managed to fit under the bridge near the railway station.

  4. Great! I guess Orléans itself is worth visiting - did you have any thoughts? Otherwise, the greenway is on this link: http://www.af3v.org/-Fiche-VVV-.html?voie=33
Will Peter be on your train?

    1. Clyde, I have downloaded a PDF copy of a 68 page Loiret cycle guide, in English. Mostly covers rides east of Orleans but does go as far west as Beaugency. We could follow the canal d'Orleans eastwards on to the section where it separates from the river. However we won't have a lot of time as I shall need some food before the end of the evening.

I will start another thread on the route options between the two railway stations and La Chapelle St Mesmin.

  5. No. I am booked on the 14:01 ex St Pancras due GdN at 17:17 local time. There are roughly hourly trains to Orleans so expect arrival there 19 to 20 hours. Martin will have a copy of the reservation by the time he leaves UK.
