The good news is that, as the distances I discover get more accurate, they get shorter - generally! Have a look at this leaflet: http://gironde.fr/cg33/upload/docs/application/pdf/2009-08/pistes_cyclables.pdf
There are a number of maps of pistes cyclables in the department of the Gironde (where we start). In particular, there is the Arcachon Basin Greenway and the Mios to Bazas GW. Arcachon station to the Dune du Pilat would seem to be 12 or 13 km. Pilat to Facture is 24 or 25 km. We know that Facture to Mios is 4.5 km (AF3V website) and the distance from Mios to La Gare comes out at only 62 km (instead of 76 km). So to get to Castets, the beginning of the canal , the distance from Pilat is 111 km. I'm working on ways of splitting this, plus a bit more, over two days.

Looking forward to our meeting on 19th. In the meantime I have now booked a 2-bed room (DUO) at the F1 Hotel de Ville, about 1km from St Bordeux St.Jean station for the night of Sunday 27th May to coincide with my travel from Paris on the evening TGV. The second bed is there for anyone prepared to tolerate my snoring/frequent trips to the loo.
ReplyDeleteThe website Dash4it is currently advertising IGN 1:100,000 maps at £6.39 post free, allegedly a £1.20 reduction. The numbering seems to have altered since I bought any but please all note that I have the older series maps for Beziers/Perpignan (72), Beziers/Montpellier (65) and Avignon/Montpellier (66).
Yes, number 152 has the same title (Bordeaux Mont de Marsan) as 55 in the old series and they don't quite cover the same areas. I received 152 in the post this morning (from Dash4It)and was disappointed to see that not all the pistes cyclables are shown, despite the fact that many have been around for years!
